General Summary:

The Junior Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Specialist is part of an agile team that takes part in requirements gathering, analyzing, designing, building and testing high quality Advanced Metrics Products that meet and exceed customer expectations. The team is dedicated to making software that enhances workflow, practice, and decision support in practitioner-based environments like physical healthcare, behavioral healthcare, and community health. You will take part in furthering our mission to make data human.

The Jr. SQA Specialist will be responsible for quality assurance. The Advanced Metrics model of development is committed to having all members of the team intimately aware of our customer's needs. A summary of examples includes: review functional requirements and end user scenarios from real world customer experiences; design test plans, work with the team to write test cases, oversee test strategies and perform testing for assigned applications. The SQA Specialist works closely with the team to understand customer needs, submit and verify defects in the software development life cycle, maintain documentation of test results to assist in team communication, deadline management, code debugging and modification of Advanced Metrics software, analyze test results with developers and trainers to certify software functionality. Further, this position will take an active role in recommending a corrective action upon testing failures.

Testing comprises a variety of methods and approaches, including System, Integration, Component and Regression testing. Testing phases include Alpha Testing (internal), Beta Testing (external/customer), and Release Testing.

Attention to detail and the ability to define and document the steps leading to a software fault' is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Senior QA engineer and Technical Project Manager to proficiently execute test plans on computer applications.
  • Record and document results and compare to expected results.
  • Communicate testing results to both the operation team and development team.
  • Detect software failures so that defects may be identified and corrected.
  • Maintain database of software anomalies, issues, defects.
  • Examine code and execution of code in various environments.
  • Verify specific action or function of code.
  • Provide application instructions for users.
  • Develop and document application test plans based on software requirements and technical specifications.
  • In partnership with the development team, create meaningful error handling procedures for application code.
  • In partnership with agile team, perform application security audits.
  • Participate in application planning meetings.
  • Ensure data integrity standards.
  • Perform reviews, walkthroughs, or inspections.
  • Actively work to improve testing methods and process of agile team.
  • Stay up to date regarding industry standards surrounding the QA process.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn, Atlassian JIRA.
  • Basic knowledge of Database/SQL.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly detail the steps to re-produce software issues.
  • Ability to learn different testing methodologies and approaches regarding System, Integration, Component and Regression testing.
  • Experience with performance testing and analysis.
  • Experience developing test plans and test scripts from user stories, epics, and requirements artifacts is a plus but not a requirement.
  • Experience in acceptance testing and how it applies to agile testing a plus.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Exceptional ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to operate and innovate in a small team with a fast-paced environment, balancing both strategic and tactical needs.

Education, Credentials and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, social work, psychology, sociology a plus.
  • One year or more experience testing web applications.

Special Requirements:

  • Knowledge and familiarity with HIPAA and operational data security a plus.
  • Applicants will be required to complete a skills assessment test as part of the interview process. Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle to attend trainings and meetings.
  • Must have the ability to obtain clearances as defined by regulations.
  • Other special requirements will be determined based on the needs of the position.
